<<At 10-years old she started playing guitar. At 13, she was
playing lead with David Lebón's white Gibson, and played in the afternoons
with Pedro Aznar, Mono Fontana and her brother Lito Epumer, recreating Stevie
Wonder songs. Two years later, she accomplished her first recording in a
studio for María Rosa Yorio's solo debut, and at around 20 she got to shake
the rock scene with the unprejudiced "Viudas e Hijas de Roque
Enroll" ("Widows and Daughters of Roque Enroll"
(transliteration of Rock'n Roll)). Later, just like Rodolfo— one of
the Orozco brothers— she played with everybody: From Charly García—
of whom she became the official guitarist— to Fito Páez, and took part in
projects that linked her with many of the most representative of Argentinian
rock musicians. Now, María Gabriela Epumer has decided that the time
has come to go it alone, and has now a very interesting second album in which
the word soloist loses a little of its literal meaning.
For the recording, she counted on the participation of the very English
Robert Fripp— the crimson king of the legendary band King Crimson— Charly
García, Fito Páez, Emmanuel Horvilleur of the Illya Kuryaki & The
Valderramas, Francisco Bochatón, Richard Coleman, Fernando Samalea, and
Fernando Kabusacki, among others. Additionally, she recorded a cover
from Luis Alberto Spinetta, one from La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros ("The
Bird-making Machine," a 70s superband), and another from Daniel Melero.>>
<<The first two especially since my teenage years, so it was like
allowing me a very personal pleasure.
--Like including one of Fripp's soundscapes.
--Yes, of course. Even though it was a bit casual. Kabusacki (who belongs
to Epumer's stable band) told Fripp that we were recording, and asked him if
he'd be interested in participating. I sent him a copy of my songs, and
some time later he returned it with his recording. He composed some
incredible sounds for the beginning of "Quiero estar entre tus cosas"
("I Want to Be Among Your Things").>>
The album will be finalized sometime in early May and should be on sale in
Argentina later this year.
